Uh oh:
The injury to Brenden Morrow is not good. Severed tendons in his wrist after he was stepped on by a skate. Surgery late last night to repair the damage. The Stars say he is out indefinitely. In other words, a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is pushing the end of the season before he returns. But we’ll just have to wait and see on that.
Getting stepped on with a skate, severed tendons, oh the agony. No to mention the agony Stars fans are looking at if this team cannot find any offense.
Emma and I will be at the game Friday night against Nashville (thanks Santa!). She will want to see some offense and hear plenty of Rock and Roll Part 2 I sure hope Modano is back.
Drudge linked-to and ESPN posted an AP wire article entitled Court: Feds may use drug testing data from 2003
The names and urine samples of about 100 Major League Baseball players who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs three years ago can be used by government investigators in their probe of steroids in sports, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.
The Feds hope that Bonds name is on the list, but the real question is about the other 99 players. Who are they? Clemens and Pettitte? Palmeiro? Sosa? The legacy of those 100 will be tarnished forever when the names come out.
I really want Clemens to be steroid free, but who knows in this day and age. Our heroes often don’t look so heroic when you get to the end of the story anymore.
The Astros have acquired right-hander Jason Jennings from the Rockies, according to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal.
Looks like Purpura gave up a ton (Willy T, Buchholz, Hirsch) to get Jennings. Let’s hope the native-Texan has success in Houston and agrees to a long-term deal.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch the Astros have also offered Jeff Suppan a contract. “Soup” would be a solid addition to the Astros rotation. Why would he want to play for the Royals or Pirates? They aren’t going anywhere.

Wow, that sucks. Not totally unexpected, but it stings.
Ortiz seems to think it was the player option on a second year that killed the deal for the Astros. Jayson Stark has some crazy collusion theory.
Drayton says the Astros will get a #2 pitcher. What will they have to give up? Can they resurrect the Garland deal?
Richard Justice is his normal pessimistic self. Me? I don’t know. I am torn. I hate seeing Andy leave. He has been hurt a bunch over the past 3 years, but in ‘05 and ‘06 he was very solid down the stretch. Can the Astros replace him for less than they could have spent to keep him?
PS. Russ Springer signed with the Redbirds too!
On the heals of the Freddy Garcia trade, Phil Rogers at ChicagoSports.com writes:
Having inhaled their cigars and digested the developments, Williams declared his club has no plans to extend the contracts of Mark Buehrle beyond 2007 or Jon Garland, Jose Contreras and Javier Vazquez beyond 2008.
In other words between now and Opening Day 2009, the Sox either will trade or lose to free agency every member of the starting rotation, including the four guys who won a World Series 14 months ago. Are these guys nuts?
Now, the Houston Chronicle is reporting that “Astros set to get pitcher Jon Garland from White Sox“. This is a great move for the Astros if the price is only Taveras and Buchholz. I hate to lose Willy T’s defense, but pitching wins championships.
[Update 10:16AM] FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal says we need to tap the breaks Jon Garland being a done deal and adds that Jason Hirsch is in the deal as well.
