KZPS Lone Star 92.5, a Clear Channel Experiement

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Lone Star 92.5 FM

I heard bits of this on The Hardline this past Friday, but Dallas radio station KZPS is changing formats. Make that has changed formats. As of today the Clear Channel station is Lone Star 92.5 playing Outlaw Country + Classic Rock + Alternative Country.

They are also changing the way they do advertising. No long commercial breaks, more sponsored programming. I think we will see much more of this in the future. I remember The Ticket playing around with this a few times in the past.

[Update] Side story, FrontBurner notes how DallasNews.com is using the NY Times as a source on this story instead of doing their own news gathering. I believe it is just another sign of the times. Newspapers as we know them are dying rather quickly. Just wait until the environmental movement puts them in their cross-hairs!

[Update 2x] FrontBurner now points out that the Star-Telegram had the KZPS story on Sunday.

Cowboys move to The Ticket

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Wow, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys just announced a 5 year deal with The Ticket to carry Cowboys games. Games will be simulcast on The Ticket and 93.3 The Bone. From DallasNews.com:

“This is a significant day for our organization,” Jones said in a news release. “The Ticket has had a dramatic impact on the sporting culture of North Texas. They have created a powerful voice that makes a difference. This is a relationship that adds a significant media partner to the Dallas Cowboys corporate family — one that has set the bar nationally for local sports talk radio. The Ticket and 93.3 The Bone will allow us to reach all of our fans with a sense of urgency and style.”

FCC sides with Big Media

Monday, June 2nd, 2003

In a not at all shocking decision the FCC voted 3-2 today to ease rules on media ownership:

At one level, Monday’s vote represents a high-stakes power struggle at FCC headquarters between left-leaning groups—along with a few conservative allies like the National Rifle Association—and free-market groups and Republicans in Congress. The FCC’s tense internal deliberations also highlight an ideological conflict between two wildly different views of how to keep prices low and competition robust: Is it wiser to increase the number of federal regulations or to gradually rescind them?

Although we firmly believe in limited government and the free-market, the influence the big media conglomerates has over American media is staggering. The big companies are sure to grow bigger as a result of the new ruling. Let’s see how things change here in Texas. To that end, we have prepared a review of media ownership in D/FW as of today:

Yes!

The Web site constantly monitors hundreds of stations from every corner of the country, creating a massive database of music by coding each song with a digital fingerprint.

To search for a song, simply log onto to the site and enter the name of the radio station that aired the song as well as the approximate time you heard it.

The site will process your request and provide you with the song’s title and the artist.

You can also access the site from your mobile phone.

Yes.net claims to have an archive of every song played, every minute of the day for up to 24 hours.

Sure helps when you want to find the mp3 of that great new tune on the radio.
