Friendswood halts English initiative

From Chron.com Friendswood halts official-English initiative:

Voters here won’t be deciding the controversial issue of making English the official language of their city anytime soon.

In a 5-2 vote, the City Council decided Monday not to place the proposed city charter amendment on the city’s May 12 ballot.

Meanwhile, Farmers Branch City Councilman Tim O’Hare will be speaking March 8 at the Citizens for Immigration Reform meeting.

Gallagher raises over $5K to support Farmers Branch

Mike Gallagher and Eric Wallace. 'Please Speak English' t-shirt

On my way to work today, I stopped in to see Mike Gallagher and support his efforts to raise money for the city of Farmers Branch’s defense fund. I caught just the tail end of the show from Blue Star Deli, but I did get a t-shirt and a chance to meet Mike. Gallagher told me they had raised over $5,000 in 2 and a half hours. Great work Mike. Get your own “Speak English” t-shirt and support the legal defense fund for Farmers Branch, TX!

I wonder if the Morning News will write a story about this? They posted Illegal immigrant fight costs more than $50,000, but donations just $122 last night. Better up that tote board there to at least $5,122.

[Update: 12/22 MikeOnline.com has a note saying over $7,000 has been raised so far!]
