I am thrilled to see that Derek Webb is coming to play at FBCN in April!

Fellowship North is excited to welcome Derek Webb in concert! An accomplished singer/songwriter, Webb is a former member of the popular Houston, Texas-based Christian band, Caedmon’s Call. During his stint with the band, he experienced sales approaching 1 million records, along with 10 GMA Dove Award nominations and three Dove Award wins and six #1 Christian radio hits. In 2003, however, Webb left Caedmon’s Call to pursue a solo career. Since his departure, he has released three studio albums as well as a live album and a DVD. Webb is passionate for the Church and its ongoing need for the Gospel, and his authentic musical style and theology-based lyrics, have stirred both the hearts and minds of his listeners. He’s recently released two new albums which will be available for purchase at the concert. Don’t miss this inspiring evening with Derek Webb! Tickets go on sale this weekend after services, and will be available thereafter by calling the church office at 972.783.8800.
Ticket prices: $10 (adults), $7 (students), $12 (at the door)
I received an email from FreeDerekWebb.com tonight saying that so far over 65,000 copies of Derek Webb’s Mockingbird album have been downloaded for free (mp3/no DRM)!

Lyrics:
If you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
Should that be all I’d ever need
or is there more I’m looking for
and should I read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
To make me handsome, rich, and wise
Is that really what you want
I am a whore I do confess
But I put you on just like a wedding dress
and I run down the aisle
and I run down the aisle
I’m a prodigal with no way home
but I put you on just like a ring of gold
and I run down the aisle to you
So could you love this bastard child
Though I don’t trust you to provide
With one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side
I am so easily satisfied
by the call of lovers so less wild
That I would take a little cash
Over your very flesh and blood
Because money cannot buy
a husband’s jealous eye
When you have knowingly deceived his wife
By Derek Webb from the album She Must and Shall Go Free.
Grassroot Music Magazine’s Kierstin Berry interviews Derek Webb:
I went to high school with Derek Webb, back in the late 80’s, back when he had long wavy hair and wore a faded denim jacket nearly every day. He was in a rock band called Euphoria then and he idolized Mr. Big… I still remember his excitement when he unveiled his custom Paul Gilbert electric guitar, signed by the man himself. I think it was purple with neon yellow pick-ups. My, how times do change.
With so much discussion surrounding Derek lately, I was particularly eager to grab a cliche’ cup of coffee with my old friend and to settle the rumors about his departure from the band, as well as find out about his recent ventures, namely, his newfound passion for the modern Church.
I remember how Derek seemingly played Stairway to Heaven the entire bus trip to Frontier Ranch. Great to see how God is using Derek and Kierstin’s talents.

The post about Derek Webb got us thinking about other KHS grads on the web. Below is a quick list. Something more might become of this, we will see.
