For the second time this summer a Texas child has been killed while under the care of day-care providers. In this case, 8 month old Jordan Thomas was left in the back of a drivers Suburban for over seven hours. Temperatures neared 100 degrees outside while the baby baked in the heat of the vehicle.
What is really disturbes me in this case is the boy was said to be left in the back of the Suburban. Was he left in his car seat? Or was he simply lying in the back on the floor? We don’t know. No television reporter has talked about this to my knowledge. The DallasNew.com article does not make mention of this, while the Star-Telegram article offers this It was not clear if the boy was in a car seat anchored inside the vehicle.
How on earth anyone can forget a child in a vehicle is beyond me, but I am willing to accept that it was a mistake. However, if the child was not even in a car seat, I really have doubts about the driver. It is absolutely unconsciable to have so little regard for the life and safety of a child.
